2010 LIVESTRONG Challenge: Austin Weekend

Picture
Mother and son. Proxies and delegates. Veteran and freshman. You name it, but when Rica and Zachary knew they were going to Austin, TX to ride the LIVESTRONG Challenge and volunteer, they were very well aware that this was more than a mother & son vacation. They knew they were wearing the names, hopes and memories of the hundreds of people they touched during the year. They had sponsors, donors, family members & friends hovering over them, watching what they were doing. And there were angels overhead, looking down and smiling on them.
Sadly, while they were in Austin, they learned of a new angel that had left this world, and this man was the father of their closest & dearest family friend. While they rode the challenge with only 2 names on the bibs on their backs, along the 65 miles they road together, they talked about all of the people they met during the year. All of the stories they heard and all of the people who were counting on them to ride that extra mile for their loved ones and themselves.

Rica & Zachary, and in 2011, Ariella, plan to represent Fairfield & Westchester Counties Benefiting LIVESTRONG once again. They hope to bring along some other members, and go for the full 100-miles, while 9-year old Ariella will participate in her first LIVESTRONG Challenge, the Saturday Walk/Run.
