2010 Transportation Alternatives NYC Century Tour

Thank goodness, I knew what to expect. And this year, I was at least riding a bike that was the proper size and had integrated shifting. If you aren't a cyclist, trust me - riding a bike that is too big for you, with old fashioned shifting, while trying to ride 100 miles with an injured back isn't easy.

And, thanks to the organizers for changing the route after the Brooklyn Bridge to avoid a 2-mile climb from hell.

Given that, the weather prohibited me from officially finishing 100 miles. But, since I'm a blonde, and Murphy's Law seems to really enjoy raining on my rides and making life interesting, I ended up "accidentally" riding 96 miles (I got lost in Harlem on my way back to Central Park). I felt like a seasoned veteran on this ride, and got the chance to spread the LIVESTRONG message on, as Michael Wolf had done with me in 2009, ride with some great folks, and cross bridges while kicking cancer for Darlene Berggren a second year in a row.

Tragically, Darlene lost her fight to cancer within a couple of days of the NYC Century Tour, but, I know that she was aware I was riding in her honor again.
