More rain? Really?
Well, if Lance can ride in this, so can I.
2010 LIVESTRONG Challenge: Philadelphia
Does the phrase "Don't rain on my parade" mean anything to you? I think cancer knew we were hot on its trail and tried to wash us out. Thousands of riders descended on the outskirts of Philadelphia to ride with Lance Armstrong and grind cancer to a pulp. The weather didn't look great at the start, but we were hoping. Then an hour or two into the ride, the rain started. And kept going. And going.
The 100-mile course was cancelled, with only a few riders that sped faster than you could say "LIVESTRONG" and were allowed to finish. The slick roads yielded crash after crash, and many of us who were determined to ride ungodly distances to make our sponsors proud were wiped out onto the sides of the road. I did all that I could to keep going, but the unyielding hills of the Philaldephia area were taking its toll on my still injured back, and I had to call it quits prematurely.
But we made our points. We would ride no matter what.
And I think we all made an oath to return in 2011 with a vengeance and finish what we started.
